Node-RED on Windows - Alexa Setup Guide

Requirements

• Node.js Windows installer from nodejs.org
• Windows Build Tools (optional, for native modules)
• Network access for Alexa cloud integration

Installation

1. 1 Download and install Node.js LTS from https://nodejs.org
2. 2 Open Command Prompt or PowerShell as Administrator
3. 3 Install Node-RED globally: npm install -g --unsafe-perm node-red
4. 4 Start Node-RED: node-red
5. 5 Access Node-RED at http://localhost:1880
6. 6 To run Node-RED as a Windows service, use pm2 or nssm
7. 7 Install Alexa integration node via the palette manager inside Node-RED

Alexa Integration

Windows works well for Node-RED development and testing. Windows Firewall may prompt to allow Node-RED network access on first run - allow it for local discovery nodes to work. For a production setup, consider using pm2 or nssm to run Node-RED as a Windows service.
