Node-RED on Docker - Alexa Setup Guide

Requirements

Min RAM 512MB (1GB recommended)

Min Storage 1GB

OS Any OS with Docker support

Node.js Included in container

Docker Engine 20.10+
Network access for Alexa cloud integration

Installation

Docker ~5-10 minutes

1 Install Docker on your system if not already installed
2 Pull the official Node-RED image: docker pull nodered/node-red
3 Create a data directory for persistence: mkdir -p ~/.node-red
4 Run the container: docker run -d -p 1880:1880 -v ~/.node-red:/data --name nodered nodered/node-red
5 Access Node-RED at http://localhost:1880
6 Install Alexa integration node via the palette manager inside Node-RED

Alexa Integration

Docker is great for Node-RED. Cloud-based Alexa nodes work out of the box. Local-only nodes (amazon-echo, wemo-emulator) may need --net=host for device discovery on the local network.
