Node-RED on Unraid - Alexa Setup Guide

Run Node-RED on Unraid using the Community Applications plugin. Simple one-click installation from the app store with Docker-based deployment on your Unraid server.

Requirements

Min RAM 512MB for Node-RED container (Unraid system needs 4GB+)
Min Storage 1GB for container and appdata
OS Unraid 6.10+
Node.js Included in container
  • Community Applications plugin installed
  • Docker service enabled in Unraid settings
  • Network access for Alexa cloud integration

Installation

Community Apps (Docker) ~5-10 minutes
  1. 1 Ensure Docker is enabled in Settings > Docker
  2. 2 Install the Community Applications plugin if not already installed
  3. 3 Go to Apps and search for Node-RED
  4. 4 Click Install on the Node-RED template
  5. 5 Review the default configuration (port 1880, appdata path)
  6. 6 Click Apply to download and start the container
  7. 7 Access Node-RED at http://your-unraid-ip:1880
  8. 8 Install Alexa integration node via the palette manager inside Node-RED

Alexa Integration

Unraid makes Node-RED deployment simple through Community Apps. Cloud-based Alexa nodes work immediately. For local discovery nodes, edit the container and change the network type from Bridge to Host. Unraid's Docker support is mature and reliable.
