Node-RED on Raspberry Pi 4 - Alexa Setup Guide

Requirements

Min RAM 2GB (4GB recommended)

Min Storage 16GB microSD

OS Raspberry Pi OS (Debian-based)

Node.js 18.x or newer

Stable power supply (USB-C, 3A)
Network connection (Ethernet or WiFi)
Optional: Zigbee USB dongle for local device control

Installation

npm (via official script) ~15-20 minutes

1 Flash Raspberry Pi OS to microSD card using Raspberry Pi Imager
2 Boot the Pi and complete initial setup (SSH recommended)
3 Run the official Node-RED install script: bash <(curl -sL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/node-red/linux-installers/master/deb/update-nodejs-and-nodered)
4 Enable Node-RED as a service: sudo systemctl enable nodered
5 Access Node-RED at http://your-pi-ip:1880
6 Install Alexa integration node from the palette manager
